The Innovation Awards have been designed to drive innovation in the China metalworking industry. Following a strict selection process of the independent judge panel, 2012 Awards selection continue to use the combination with reference to the results of online voting. 36 winning companies featured their innovative products and technologies across 11 categories, including machine tools for turning, milling, boring, grinding, gear cutting;metal forming machine tools, sheet metal, wire and tube working machines; special manufacturing technology; tools, grinding, clamping devices, measuring tools & systems; CAM/CAD software; functional components; coolants and lubricants; machining tools for energy-saving and emissions reduction; automated; total solution and others.

The grand award giving ceremony was held at Renaissance Shanghai Pudong Hotel on November 8. Winners received awards for their innovative products and technologies which drive development in China’s metalworking industry.

When we review the selections this year, First, there are 90 entries from 82 international and local companies. The number of companies and entries increased by 78% and 76%, indicating that the award is getting more influence and recognition in the industry. Secondly,"Machine Tools for Tuning, Milling, Boring, Grinding, Cutting" and "Cutting Tools" is still the most competitive category. As the industry moves to the processing of more complex work pieces, with the need to have high precision performance and reducing the production costs, more complex processing machine tools and cutting tools with high speed capabilities are the big winners of the category. Thirdly, with the increase of labor costs ,and labour shortages, the new "automation" and "total solution" categories have been added this year. we are very pleased to see many companies taking the lead in going green. Finally, the category "Machining Tools for Energy Conservation and Emissions Reduction"has attracted a lot more entries this year. Such as Linear Motor Drive Machining Center Bumotec S-191FTL-R+ from Bumotec SA and 5 axis CNC universal mill-turn center G550T from GROB-WERKE GmbH & Co., KG.

In addition, continued Mr. Hay: “One of the most important elements in any Awards issuing Program is that it must be honest, fair transparent and that it should truly identify -in our case – Innovation. Ringier’s judging process for the Awards is completely neutral, objective and fair. It is the independent panel of experts – the judges who play the key role in the selection of winners and not Ringier. These judges cannot be bought, and we cannot be bought. Moreover, Ringier Plastics Innovation Awards is the only Award that not only focuses on the suppliers who introduce the products or technologies but recognizes end users that show Innovation in their manufacturing process and or product design".
