At the same time, this year marks the 15th anniversary of Ringier Trade Media and its outstanding contribution to the Chinese market in the past 15 years. Ten companies from the list of winners were given the “2013 Metalworking Outstanding Supplier Award.” The competition was held every year since 2006, accompanied by China’s booming metalworking industry for eight years now. The purpose of the Awarding is to encourage, acknowledge and reward those individuals and companies who have developed new ideas, methodologies, products and technologies for production efficiency, cost effectiveness and user convenience, which results in energy saving and a more responsible clean manufacturing process in the metalworking industry.

The award giving ceremony was held at the Renaissance Shanghai Pudong Hotel on November 7. Winners received awards for their innovative products and technologies which drive development in China’s metalworking industry.

There were 120 entries submitted from 110 international and local companies. The number of companies and entries increased by 33% and 34%, respectively, while first time registrants reached 40%. The participation of local enterprises significantly improved, including Shenyang Machine Tool, BEIJING NO.1 MACHINE TOOL, Xiamen Golden Egret and ZWCAD SOFTWARE, as well as many famous domestic companies from the metal cutting machine tools, cutting tools and software industries. Firms from other categories competed with international companies and eventually became winners. Registrations in the “Automation and Total Solution” categories continue to warm due to the increase in labor costs and labor shortages. ABB Engineering, STÄUBLI, Suzhou Pt Automation and other domestic and foreign enterprises compete to push the metalworking industry towards a secure direction. For the first time this year, material suppliers participating include Aleris’ Molding & Tooling Aluminum and Weldural & Hokotol. The processing properties of aluminum alloy with excellent mold can improve the machining efficiency by 30%. Also worth mentioning is the appearance of these products at this year’s Hannover International Machine Tool Exhibition (EMO2013), a choice of Carl Jung Innovation Award to fire the sentinel, which shows the influence of the activity.

Ringier Trade Media President Mr. Michael Hay, said, “One of the most important elements in any Awards issuing Program is that it must be honest, fair transparent and that it should truly identify -in our case – Innovation. Ringier’s judging process for the Awards is completely neutral, objective and fair. It is the independent panel of experts – the judges who play the key role in the selection of winners and not Ringier. These judges cannot be bought, and we cannot be bought. Nominations are open to everybody in the industry and the final winners are selected solely on their merit – and nothing more. Moreover, Ringier Metalworking Innovation Awards is the only Award that not only focuses on the suppliers who introduce the products or technologies but recognizes end users that show Innovation in their manufacturing process and or product design".

Mr. Tang Bo, one of the judges and General Secretary of the Shanghai Heavy Equipment Manufacturing Industry association, stated, At present, China's machinery industry is in a critical period of transformation and upgrading. The impact of the international financial crisis still exists, the fierce competition in the international market, the demand of domestic market pull, the metalworking industry is both a challenge and an opportunity. The importance of technological innovation, the urgency is more apparent."
