Ringier Trade Media Ltd. and its magazine - Reinforced Plastics News China have recently announced the winners of the 2013 Ringier Technology Innovation Awards for the Composites Industry. Following a strict selection process of the independent judge panel, 15 winning companies featured their innovative products across 5 categories. More than 60 high-level delegates from winning companies such as Wacker Chemical, Evonik, DSMl, and FANUC participated the grand ceremony and gala dinner, together with the Awards judges, magazine readers and industry media

The Ringier Technology Innovation Awards have encouraged, acknowledged and rewarded those individuals and companies who have introduced and developed a new idea, a new method, or a new product or technology. The event is composed of three steps: nomination, judging and the award-presentation ceremony. “The bottom line is that these Awards are designed to drive innovation in China’s composites industry”, said Mr. Mike Hay, President of Ringier Trade Media.

Mr. Hay also emphasized the difference between the Ringier Technology Innovation Awards and other industry awards present in the market by stating: “One of the most important elements in any Awards Program is that it must be honest, it must be fair, and it must be transparent and that it truly identifies -in our case – Innovation. Our judging process is completely neutral, objective and fair. First of all, it is the independent panel of experts – the judges who play the key role in the selection of the winners that is one important feature that makes the Ringier Industry Innovation Awards special and different from other such programs in China. These judges cannot be bought, we cannot be bought – nominations are open to everybody in the industry and the final winners are selected solely on their merit – and nothing more. Moreover, Ringier Compostes Innovation Awards is the only Award that not only focuses on the suppliers who introduce the products or technologies but recognizes end users that show Innovation in their manufacturing process and or product design.”

"Application" and "material" have become the most intensive competition category this year, among which ROHACELL foam of Evonik Degussa in reinforced pressure frame of C919 aircraft won the most votes as an “applied” product. Polypropylene LFRT of Chongqing Polycomp International Corp, LSE volatile environmental resin of Huachang Polymer Co., Ltd, ArmaFORM flame-proof PET sandwich material of Armacell, as well as AIREX SealX technology of 3A Composite (China) are the spotlight in "material " category. These award-winning technologies and applications reflect the market’s expectation and favor upon composite unique advantages in weight reduction, environmental protection and easy processing. People have been attaching great importance to simplified processing technology and cut-down labor cost in composite industry. It can be also seen from the award evaluation on the other three categories that composite industry is receiving increasing attention and the judges spare no favor in simplified technology as well as automated software and equipment.

The panel of judges and market professionals who presented the Awards to winners included Mr. Cao Mingfa, Research Professor of Marine Design & Research Institute of China; Mr. Xiao Jun, Professor of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Mr. Zhang Jinnan, President of Shanghai FRP Research Institute Co., Ltd

Next year’s Awards will be held in April in Shanghai, 2014
