Indonesia is set to emerge as the swiftly expanding coatings market in Asia, according to Frost & Sullivan. In the next 2-3 years, its market size is projected to rank second in the region. This growth can be attributed to the advancements in end-user markets such as construction, furniture, and particularly the ongoing population growth.

The coatings industry in Indonesia is currently witnessing a shift towards the production of healthier and eco-friendly products. This includes the development of lead-free, chromium-free, water-based, low-odor, and low-volatile organic compound (VOC) paints. However, there are several challenges that need to be addressed. The first challenge is the fluctuation in raw material prices, which affects the overall cost of production. The second challenge is the disruption in the supply chain caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Furthermore, the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war has created global uncertainties, leading to fluctuations in oil prices. This, in turn, affects the prices of solvents and other related products, as well as shipping costs. In response to these challenges, local governments are expected to introduce regulations regarding the use of lead-free paints.
