The automotive industry in Indonesia plays a major role in the country’s overall economic development. Next to Thailand, Indonesia is the second largest producer of motor vehicles and the biggest market for vehicles within the ASEAN region. By 2026, Indonesian vehicle production is projected to reach 1.62 million units, rising by an average of 2.3% each year from 1.39 million in 2021. Since 2002, the country's supply has grown by 3.4% annually. Global companies operate their production facilities in the country, finding Indonesia the most suitable location for their automobile, motorcycle and auto parts & components production.
As Indonesia commits to achieve Net Zero Emission (NZE) by 2060 or even earlier, the need to develop an automotive industry towards this direction has encouraged the production of electric vehicles and vehicles with low emissions and high fuel efficiency – giving opportunities to manufacturers of auto parts, components, automotive plastics, etc.
